What to expect on your first visit.

Your initial consultation will take 45 minutes
                  and will include :

   A detailed history of your condition or injury
                  and your day to day routine.
   You will be asked about diet, exercise,
                  what is happening in your life.
   We may feel your pulses, check your reflexes
                  and other neurological testing.
   We may take your blood pressure and refer you
                  for clinical tests if we think you need them.
   We look at your posture and how you move your body.
   We assess what happens when we move your body for you.
   Using touch we may find areas which are sensitive or tight.
   You will be fully informed of any findings
                  and we will explain your problem to you.
   Treatment will be given on your first visit and advice given,
                 including exercises, where appropriate.
   We may sometimes feel osteopathy is not appropriate for you,
                 and refer you to your GP or another specialist.

What should I wear?

As with any medical examination, you will be asked to undress to your underwear
- so please wear something in which you are comfortable.
If you do not feel comfortable undressing to your underwear just tell us
and please wear light clothing that does not restrict your movement.
e.g. leggings, jogging bottoms or shorts and a vest top are ideal.

Can I bring a friend or relative?

Yes - if you wish, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and treatment.
We ask that all children under the age of 17 should be accompanied by a parent or relative.

Do I need to see my doctor first?

You do not need to see your doctor first if you are paying for your own treatment.
Some insurance companies, however, require you to see your doctor first.
